Gen. Stanley McChrystal appeared on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” show on May 21st to offer ways for more Americans to get involved in national service.
Gen. Stanley A. McChrystal, whose call for improved national service inspired the mission of the Aspen Institute Franklin Project, made several high-profile press appearances yesterday to promote The Franklin Project, which he hopes will encourage young people to “do more.”
“It would allow them to do something that leaves a mark not just on the nation and their fellow Americans, but on themselves,” said McChrystal. He currently serves on the Franklin Project Leadership Council, and told MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” host Joe Scarborough about the young people the Franklin Project works with to engage in a year of paid national service.
McChrystal also weighed in on the scandal surrounding the Veterans Administration Secretary Eric Shinseki’s pending resignation following allegations of misconduct in the VA system.
“I’m a great believer in accountability, but I’m also a great believer in knowing the facts before you hold anybody accountable,” Gen. McChrystal told the “TODAY Show’s” Savannah Guthrie on the same day as his MSNBC appearance.
McChrystal will also be speaking at The Franklin Project’s upcoming Summit at Gettysburg alongside Teach for All CEO Wendy Kopp , Clinton Foundation Vice Chair Chelsea Clinton, and many other advocates of national service. The three-day summit entitled “Our Unfinished Work” will highlight the Project’s work one year following its initial launch, and the work that lies ahead. Learn more about what Gen.
