Aspen In New York: Capitalism and the Future
What will the American economic system look like in the next 10 years?
Who are the innovators currently at work shaping that new future?
Is a new corporate model emerging?
On November 3 and 4, 2009, the Aspen Institute Business and Society Program, in partnership with the New York Public Library and Bloomberg Television, presented the first in a series of yearly public programs in New York City looking at business, society and leadership. Titled “Aspen in New York,” the series brought together provocative thinkers for conversations about issues that are on the public mind, with a particular focus on the role of business in society. The program on the evening of November 3rd turned from the causes of our current economic crisis to fresh thinking that is emerging from its challenges to U.S. businesses and society. How are those challenges shaping the thinking of America’s most innovative business leaders? Will these cutting edge businesses become the model for the corporation of the future? What will that new corporation look like and how will it interact with the communities in which it operates? These are among some of the provocative questions that were explored in an evening of public conversation about “Capitalism and the Future.”
Bloomberg Television, Aspen’s media partner for the two days, broadcast the programs, and hosted the second day’s sessions at its corporate headquarters in New York.
Topics discussed on Day 2, November 4th included: social innovation and sustainability, the relationship between beliefs and business, new forms and rules for capital, and the changing relationship between Washington and Wall Street. These 75-minute face-to-face sessions were moderated by leading journalists.
The first day of programming on Tuesday, November 3rd began at 7 pm. The second day of programming on Wednesday, November 4 ran from 9 am to 4 pm. Click here to see a detailed agenda of November 3 and 4.
