Strobe Talbott to Address “The Great Experiment: The Story of Ancient Empires, Modern States, and the Quest for a Global Nation” at Aspen Institute Speaker Series Program
Aspen, CO, July 24, 2008 –– The next installment of the 2008 Aspen Institute McCloskey Speaker Series will feature a lecture by Strobe Talbott, president of the Brookings Institution and Deputy Secretary of State during the Clinton administration. Talbott will discuss his latest book, The Great Experiment: The Story of Ancient Empires, Modern States, and the Quest for a Global Nation (Simon & Schuster).
The event will take place from 5:00 to 6:30 PM on Friday, August 1, 2008 at the Walter Paepcke Memorial Auditorium on the Institute’s Aspen Meadows campus in Aspen, CO. The series is made possible by a gift from the McCloskey Family Charitable Foundation. Tickets for the McCloskey Speaker Series will be $10 each and are now on sale through Aspen Show Tickets at the Wheeler Opera House. As a full-capacity audience is expected for this program, early ticket purchasing is encouraged. Doors will open 45 minutes prior to the start of the lecture, and unclaimed tickets will be sold at the door.
Strobe Talbott is president of the Brookings Institution. Talbott, whose career spans journalism, government service, and academe, is an expert on US foreign policy, with specialties on Europe, Russia, South Asia, and nuclear arms control. As deputy secretary of state in the Clinton administration, Talbott was deeply involved in both the conduct of US policy abroad and the management of executive branch relations with Congress.
