Conversations on Civility: Making Our Democracy Work — The Impact of Social Media on Political Campaigns
The Bipartisan Policy Center (BPC) and The Aspen Institute will host the third event in their four-part series, “Conversations on Civility: Making Our Democracy Work,” on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 in Washington, D.C. The event, Fanning the Flames or Democratizing Discourse: Social Media, Campaigns and Civil Debate, will address the growing role of social media in campaigns and its impact on political discourse. Panelists will suggest ways to harness the positive aspects of social media to foster a more substantive and serious issues-based conversation.
The discussion will feature BPC Senior Fellow Dan Glickman, Co-Chair of BPC’s Democracy Project and Executive Director of The Aspen Institute’s Congressional Program; Tripp Donnelly, CEO of REPEQUITY, Inc.; Julie Germany, Vice President of Digital Strategy at DCI Group; Anna Greenberg, Senior Vice President and Principal at Greenberg Quinlan Rosner; and John Sides, Associate Professor of Political Science at The George Washington University. The discussion will be moderated by John Fortier, Director of BPC’s Democracy Project.
BPC and Aspen created this series to discuss how to improve our democracy and civic health. The joint series examines the breakdown of our nation’s civil discourse and how this trend is affecting future political leaders. The final event in the four part series will be December 2, 2011.
