Aspen Discovers Florence
The Aspen Institute will be sponsoring a five-day cultural seminar in partnership with the Friends of Florence Foundation (FOF). The program will be set in Florence, Italy, where the Contessa Simonetta Brandolini d’Adda, president of FOF, will open doors for us that are closed to ordinary travelers. Entitled “Florence, Birthplace of the Modern World,” we will have a travel and cultural experience for five crowded days, like nothing else participants have encountered before.

² We will visit the world-famous Uffizi Museum on Monday when closed to the general public, and will view some of their incomparable art collections, such as Leonardo’s drawings, explained to us by top Uffizi curators.
² We will be shown around private Renaissance palazzos by the owners, who will describe their unique architecture and particularly their private art collections. We will dine with them to continue the conversation.
² We will visit the Accademia Museum, also when closed to the public, to see and hear about Michelangelo’s incomparable statue of David. On the final evening, as our grand banquet, we will dine on an elegant five course classic Italian dinner, served beneath the statue of David.
² Our scholarly mentors will include New York Times best-selling author Ross King, and The Teaching Company’s celebrity lecturer Bill Cook, who previous Aspen Institute participants considered fabulous moderators during our three previous Florence seminars.
