PNB Summit Reception
In honor of the inaugural Partners for a New Beginning (PNB) Summit May 31-June 1, 2011, the Emirates-Aspen Partnership hosted a reception to honor PNB’s international partners at the Hotel Palomar in Washington, DC.
This special event brought together private sector leaders from the US and abroad, representatives from the PNB Steering Committee, and US government officials as well as PNB local chapter representatives and regional ambassadors.
Remarks were given by UAE Embassy Media Office chief Mr. Bader Bin Saeed, Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Amb. Jeffrey Feltman, Coca-Cola Senior Vice President for Global Public Affairs and Communication Clyde Tuggle, PNB Pakistan Vice-Chair and Coca-Cola Pakistan/Afghanistan Regional Manager Rizwan Khan, and Albright Stonebridge Group Principal Alan Fleischmann. The Aspen Institute’s Middle East Programs Director Mickey Bergman announced the latest PNB commitments from partners including the Tony Blair Faith Foundation, the World Cocoa Foundation, Sawari Ventures, the Tanenbaum Center for Interreligious Understanding, PeacePlayers International, and Strategic Relations Enterprise Network (SREN). Partners for a New Beginning (PNB) is an initiative that fosters public-private partnerships committed to broadening and deepening engagement between the United States and local communities around the world. Chaired by Madeleine Albright, members include Vice Chair Muhtar Kent of The Coca-Cola Company, Vice Chair Walter Isaacson of the Aspen Institute, John Chambers of Cisco Systems, John Mack of Morgan Stanley, Paul Otellini of Intel, Stephen Heintz of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, and numerous other leaders from the private and non-profit sectors. Since its launch at the 2010 Clinton Global Initiative, PNB has brought together leaders from the private, public and civil society sectors in the United States and local communities in PNB-targeted countries around the world to focus on four primary areas of engagement: economic opportunity, science & technology, education, and exchange. Thus far, PNB activities have concentrated on Turkey, Pakistan, Egypt, Indonesia, West Bank/Gaza, and North Africa (Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Mauritania) with plans to expand in the near future.
