Jordan’s Reform Agenda: A Discussion with Jordanian Minister of Planning & Int’l Cooperation, Dr. Jafar Hassan

Dr. Hassan will address Jordan’s political and economic reforms, outlining the socio-economic and fiscal challenges Jordan is facing in view of regional developments. He will discuss government efforts to reduce unemployment, achieve equity in economic growth and its efforts in the energy sector to overcome water challenges. Hassan will also address the role of the G8 initiative towards the region as the US takes over the Presidency end of December.

Dr. Jafar Hassan was first appointed as Minister of Planning and International Cooperation in December 2009 and was reappointed to the same post in February 2011 and October 2011 in the cabinet of Mr. Awn Khasawneh. Hassan previously worked as the Director of the International Affairs Department at the Royal Hashemite Court in Jordan. He has held diplomatic posts in Washington, D.C. as Deputy Chief of Mission and Charge d’Affaires (2001-06) and at Jordan’s mission to the UN European Headquarters in Geneva (1995-99).
