Washington, DC, April 3, 2020 –– The Aspen Strategy Group announced today that the Aspen Security Forum will not go forward as planned this summer due to the ongoing impact of COVID-19. The annual event, which is among the world’s premier conferences on national security and foreign policy challenges, had been scheduled to take place August 3-6 in Aspen, CO with NBC News and MSNBC as media partner.
This difficult decision was made out of consideration for the health and safety of attendees, speakers, and staff. In line with other recent event cancellations, the Aspen Institute does not want to ask participants to plan on visiting Aspen before it is considered safe to travel.
Forum organizers are now considering new ways to host and share ongoing creative programming featuring government officials, industry leaders, journalists, and other key stakeholders. This may take the form of digital programming, with the possibility for smaller scale physical events later in 2020 should circumstances allow. Those interested in learning more should contact John Hogan: John.Hogan@aspeninstitute.org
Organizers would like to thank the Forum’s partners, participants, staff, and sponsors for their ongoing support. The Aspen Security Forum will share new details about plans for 2020 in the coming months and looks forward to returning to regular programming in 2021.
