Washington, DC, April 13 — The Financial Security Program at the Aspen Institute will host a new webinar series, Conversations in Financial Security in Response to COVID-19, that will explore why addressing key household financial challenges is needed to make an equitable economic recovery. Beginning April 15, the first webinar will take place each Wednesday (except for April 22) at 1pm ET, featuring Aspen Institute experts and invited guests.
The health crisis of COVID-19 and subsequent effects on the U.S. economy have propelled to the spotlight the issue of financial security at the household level. Issues like paid leave, dependent care, housing instability, student loan debt, and debt collections were challenges to tens of millions of families across America long before the pandemic emerged – and if key changes aren’t made, they will dampen the economic recovery of the nation.
This webinar series collates research, knowledge, and policies that can help businesses and policymakers triage the immediate effects of the current pandemic, design solutions allowing households to recover, and address the structural challenges to stabilize financial security at the household level.
The first webinar on Wednesday, April 15 at 1pm ET will feature a conversation between Ida Rademacher, Vice President and Executive Director of the Financial Security Program at the Aspen Institute, and Joanna Smith-Ramani, Managing Director of the Financial Security Program at the Aspen Institute. They will provide the context of existing household financial challenges; what has suddenly changed in a COVID-19 world; and will answer some of the questions they’ve been asked by policymakers and business leaders over the past few weeks.
