SOF Symposium: Entitlements: Impact, Reforms, and the National Budget

A series of spiraling issues have threatened both the US national debt ceiling and our broader economic stability. While action has been taken to shore up short-term needs, major questions remain: How will legislators address our burgeoning entitlement programs? What can – and should – be done to address Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid? The sessions will address the history and scope of U.S. entitlement programs, the short- and long-term issues surrounding the debt ceiling, underlying patters, prospects for the near future, and global economic implications. Featuring preparatory readings, lecture, Q&A, and moderated discussion, the symposium will delve deeply into the key economic and policy issues facing us all. Moderated by Eugene Steuerle, Richard B. Fisher chair and Institute Fellow, The Urban Institute; and by Lori Montgomery, reporter, The Washington Post
