On the Pulse of Morning, Maya Angelou
Meditation
The natural world around us has witnessed the arrival and departure of our generations. Over the course of time, humans have bled the earth of its resources for comfort, currency, and commerce. “Come, you may stand upon my/Back and face your distant destiny,/But seek no haven in my shadow,/I will give you no hiding place down here,” calls the Rock. In this short excerpt from On the Pulse of Morning, Maya Angelou gives voice to the planet that calls for justice, urging humankind to find strength in unity and stand up for the future of the living world around us.
How can we find similarity in human difference to unite for causes that we all depend upon? Where do you draw courage to step out of the shadow and give voice to those who cannot speak for themselves?
