In conjunction with TIME Magazine and Burson-Marsteller, the Future of Work Initiative developed a survey on the on-demand economy in America. The survey was conducted by research firm Penn Schoen Berland, which conducted 3,000 online interviews with American adults to gauge their opinions of the on-demand economy. The survey sample is representative of the US population.
These results were used to calculate the total number of Americans having participated in the on-demand economy, whether they offered on-demand services (such as driving for Uber or Lyft) or accessed those services.
The last comprehensive survey of the on-demand economy was conducted 10 years ago, long before Uber and platforms like it had even been created. This survey is the most in-depth research study of workers and users of the On-Demand Economy ever conducted, and allows us, for the first time in 10 years, to estimate the size of this rapidly expanding sector of the economy.
