Public Libraries and Literacies: Redefining Our Impact
John B. Horrigan, Ph.D., provided independent analysis (The Role of Libraries in Advancing Community Goals) of the recently released Aspen Institute-ICMA-PLA library survey of local government officials, Local Libraries Advancing Community Goals, 2016. As the survey’s analyst, Horrigan will share insights and trends from the research findings.
The 2017 Public Library Think Tank, presented by Library Journal and School Library Journal will focus on what “literacy” means today, from reading readiness to digital and news literacy and how libraries take leadership on fostering lifelong literacy and learning. This two-day event will bring together public library leaders and directors, children’s services librarians, and young adult librarians, along with other leading thinkers on literacy today. Together, participants will learn about innovative programs and services from a series of insightful presentations and collaborative sessions. Attendees will leave with practical strategies that can be immediately applied to make a lasting impact.
Other speakers include:
Gina Millsap, Chief Executive Officer, Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library
Siobhan Reardon, President and Director, Free Library of Philadelphia
