It was great to see the True North Fellows gather for a mini reunion in Boston, MA on February 27th and 28th. They spent part of the day with a check in and discussion on Fellowship and then were able to meet with some fellow Bostonian Fellows, including a visit with TripleCrown Fellow and Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick (’99). Sheila Marcelo writes: “Given the tremendous changes at Care.com through 2012, it was truly fitting that on December 31st, we completed the acquisition of Parents in a Pinch, a leader in in-home back-up care for corporations and families. This was our third acquisition in 2012, along with a Series E round of financing, and it’s both humbling and gratifying to play a role in helping so many families around the world. One of the forces behind the launch of Care.com was my belief that access to care is a major barrier to women’s economic empowerment and their ability to engage in the workforce. As a female CEO leading a company whose customer is overwhelmingly female, I am more attuned than ever before to the need for a global women’s leadership ecosystem and in late 2012, we launched WomenUp.org. Through programs and partnerships around the world, WomenUp aims to increase women’s roles in the global economy by providing mentorship, skill-building, leadership training, and inspiration to female leaders and entrepreneurs throughout every stage of their lives and careers. We have an exciting and ambitious plan for 2013 and I look forward to sharing updates in the months ahead.”
Troy Carter was ranked #42 in The Root 100 for 2012. The Root 100 are black achievers and influencers between the ages of 25 and 45 who represent the ideals of The Root, which is run by classmate Donna Byrd.
