Resolve: Celebrating Innovations that Address the Reproductive Health Needs of All

This year’s Global Leaders Council for Reproductive Health (GLC) Resolve Award is celebrating innovations that address the reproductive health needs of all, with a focus on adolescent girls…

Now more than ever, countries must build political will and enthusiasm to end stigma, identify challenges, and develop innovative financing, policy, and delivery strategies to achieve broad and equitable access to reproductive health services for all women and men, including adolescents.

Around the world, many adolescent girls who want to delay or stop childbearing are not using modern contraception for a variety of reasons, including a lack of access to services or disapproval by health providers. In over 69 countries, the unmet family planning needs for adolescents are nearly 2.5 times higher than the unmet needs for adults; and in some countries of sub-Saharan Africa, more than half of adolescent women want to delay their next pregnancy.

The 2014 Resolve Award—a highly competitive, non-monetary award presented by the Global Leaders Council for Reproductive Health at the time of the World Health Assembly—honors countries that are supporting innovative financing, policy making, and service delivery efforts, and leading by example. While we are accepting nominations for all innovations relating the reproductive health, innovations that reach adolescent girls are an area of focus for the 2014 Award.
