Students from three Washington DC high schools presented the best challenges at the March 20 Aspen Challenge competition. They will join their winning peers from Los Angeles and Denver city schools at the 2015 Aspen Ideas Festival. The winners from Washington DC are:
- The SEED School of Washington DC – F.R.E.S.H. (Finding Real and Equitable Solutions for Health) DC’s mission is to integrate nutritious dishes into the community. We are familiar with our community and we intend to influence people to make healthier eating choices by finding an irrestistible meal that people will enjoy.
- Washington Metropolitan School – Breaking Free will teach young people how to handle the ins and outs of violence through dialogue, art, and media; offering a transparency of violence in our schools and communities to create a safe and supportive environment.
- Frank W. Ballou Senior High School – Ballou will unleash peace by creating a peer-mediation program that fosters healthy dialogue among students, while also promoting a culture where unlikely allies work together for common purposes.
