The March 8th Summit is a one-day gathering at Washington, DC’s Arena Stage dedicated to dialogue about the widening opportunity gap in the U.S. We will convene 400+ policy makers, civic leaders, social entrepreneurs, philanthropists, and practitioners from all over the country for a day of ideas, problem solving, and values-based exchange. By building on work from around the Institute and the nation, the Summit will elevate the newest research, best practices, policies, and emerging innovations in the fight against poverty and inequality of all kinds, which threaten American families, the economy, and the very functioning of our democracy.

The inaugural Summit in 2015 featured a powerful lineup of presenters including Vice President Joe Biden, the Ford Foundation’s Darren Walker, the American Enterprise Institute’s Arthur Brooks, the Center for Equitable Growth’s Heather Boushey, Baltimore City Health Commissioner Dr. Leana Wen, poet Clint Smith, and local high school students, among others.
The 2017 Summit, held at the outset of the new Administration, laid the groundwork for a national high-level conversation about the systemic nature of the problems undermining household financial security and economic mobility. Presenters included Senator Mark Warner, award-winning chef José Andrés, Paul Quinn College’s Michael J. Sorrell, former Deputy Secretary of Education Jim Shelton, DC Central Kitchen’s Mike Curtin, and poet Elizabeth Acevedo.
