It is with profound sorrow that we reflect on the passing of Aspen Strategy Group member and 25th Secretary of Defense, Ash Carter.
Ash was an inspiring leader who worked tirelessly to serve the best interests of the United States and did so with passion and commitment. He was a voice of reason and bipartisanship in foreign policy, and made enormous contributions to innovation in the national security space.
Ash brought his passion for tackling difficult problems to our discussions and initiatives at the Aspen Strategy Group since he first became involved in the 1980s. In 2018, he gave the Tenth Annual Ernest May Memorial Lecture, sharing his deep insights on the topic of technology and national security.
Most importantly, he was a great thought partner and friend throughout the years to all at the Aspen Strategy Group.
We send our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues.
