Aspen High Seas Initiative Executive Director Michael Conathan was invited to provide testimony before the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation at a hearing on “Our Blue Economy: Successes and Opportunities.” His remarks described major threats to healthy ocean and coastal ecosystems that are the foundation of a strong blue economy, the need for protection of the key ecosystem services our ocean provides, and ways that improved management of the High Seas beyond U.S. jurisdiction affects U.S. interests.
