Iran is sure to be a major focus of tonight’s Presidential debate on foreign policy. For a preview of what the candidates might say on this issue, watch what PJ Crowley, former Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs, and Douglas Feith, former Under Secretary of Defense for Policy, said about Iran’s nuclear ambitions and the US response at the 2012 Aspen Security Forum.
Feith argued that the Obama administration is touting the success of current sanctions, but initially pushed for weaker sanctions. Feith also criticized the Obama administration’s engagement with Iran. In response Crowley said that “engagement is not a strategy. Engagement is a means to an end.”
