Don’t Go Back to Sleep, Rumi

Meditation

Whether awakened through the gentle sunshine pouring through an open window, the piercing blare of an alarm clock, or the playful shrieks of children, each morning beckons us out of dreamy slumber and into reality. Each moment of awakening is an opportunity — a chance to enter our days with intention and mindfulness, to break habitual ways of thinking, to bring fresh energy into our connection with others.

And yet, the pull to sleep is persistent, and the door between the two worlds is round and open. The moments of our awareness are subtle, and it is a constant choice to remain awake and prevent habitual ways of thinking. Don’t go back to sleep. Rumi challenges us to break out of our state of autopilot and enter a space of awareness, wakefulness, and intention. What gets you out of bed in the morning? What calls you back to sleep? Where do you find the moments between embracing the morning and falling back into the ease of habitual thinking?
