Jobs for the Future, North Carolina New Schools Project, Communities Foundation of Texas, and Foundation for California Community Colleges are leaders in creating education innovations to prepare high-need students for college success, and with other partners nationally have opened more than 250 schools in this pursuit. These organizations and three early college consortia have formed the Early College Expansion Partnership (ECEP) to dramatically increase the number of high-need students who graduate from high school, not only college- and career-ready, but with substantial college credits.
The ECEP expands an exceptional approach to increasing college readiness and success for high-need students the early college high school design. Early college high schools blend high school and college coursework and enable students to simultaneously earn a high school diploma and work towards a college degree.
The ECEP project will accelerate college readiness and build momentum in college by high-need students through:
*Supporting the development and expansion of early college design schools
*Scaling up early college implementation district wide
*Creating an online platform of professional development and design services that increase the effectiveness of teachers and administrators
Rigorous experimental and quasi-experimental studies confirm the effectiveness of the design; these studies show early college students achieving significantly higher state test scores and pass rates in key college-preparatory courses than matched control groups, and closing the performance gap for students of color. Compelling proof points lay the foundation for next stage expansion.
