The past year has been rife with racial tensions as news of the shooting deaths of Eric Garner, Mike Brown, and other unarmed black men made headlines. The Aspen Institute Communications and Society Program, in association with the Comcast Corporation, hosted its annual Symposium on the State of Race in America today at the Newseum in Washington, DC, to tackle some of the underlying issues when it comes to race and society. The Symposium explores the issues and opportunities for people of color with a particular focus on the role of race and racism in the United States.
As part of the event, the Aspen Institute welcomed several social media ambassadors to participate by tweeting their opinions about the conversations on stage using the hashtag #stateofrace.
