On October 16, 2012 the Mississippi Economic Policy Center hosted their 2012 Policy Conference: Promoting Policies for Progress in Jackson, Mississippi. The conference focused on elevating the importance of health care and financial inclusion within the poverty stricken state.
Lisa Mensah, Executive Director at the Aspen Institute’s Initiative on Financial Security (Aspen IFS) was featured as a keynote speaker. Mississippi is ground zero when it comes to issues of poverty, unemployment, and educational opportunity, all of which reduce the likelihood of being attached to a financial institution. Mensah spoke about connecting people to the financial mainstream in a way that is inclusive and advances economic opportunity for households.
