New Book: “What Excellent Community Colleges Do”

February 20, 2014  • Josh Wyner

What distinguishes a high-performing community college from a standard institution? And why is there so much focus on community colleges these days? Aspen Institute College Excellence Program Executive Director Josh Wyner spends his days thinking about and researching the answers to these questions as part of his work on the Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence. He’s recently published his findings in the book, “What Excellent Community Colleges Do: Preparing All Students for Success” (Harvard Education Press).

“Community colleges have been receiving a lot of attention lately,” Wyner said. “People realize that 13 million students matter a lot. They matter to individual opportunity throughout our country, social mobility, they also matter to make sure that Americans are driving our economy forward.”
