2011 Global Health Council Conference

The Global Health Council invited MLI to participate at its annual conference. The 2011 conference, which took place in June in Washington, D.C., focused on the theme, “Securing a Healthier Future in a Changing World.” Among the conference co-chairs was Dr. Francis Omaswa, MLI Senior Advisor and Executive Director of the African Centre for Global Health and Social Development (ACHEST). MLI was featured on two panels: 

-Tuesday, 14 June, from 1:45-3:15pm: Integrating Health Governance into Health Systems Strengthening. This session, organized by Abt, Inc, focused on health governance that looked at the challenges of integrating governance into ongoing health systems strengthening efforts, examples from projects, including MLI, that have attempted to integrate governance into their ongoing work were discussed.

-Thursday, 16 June from 2:00-3:30pm: A Practical Approach to Defining, Supporting, and Evaluating Country-Driven Development: The Ministerial Leadership Initiative. This session, organized by Encompass, MLI”s monitoring and evaluation consultants, illustrated the key elements and implementation of a practical approach to supporting and evaluating country-driven development. Panelists described how MLI uses this approach to work with five ministries of health, supporting their different priorities in health financing for equity, donor harmonization and aid effectiveness, and reproductive health.

MLI also held two events at the conference: Global Launch: MLI’s Call to Action for Country-Led Development and “If Countries Lead, Will Donors Follow?”
