2022 Great Books: Democracy and Union

In 1947, two educators from the University of Chicago, Robert Maynard Hutchins, president of the university, and Professor Mortimer J. Adler, established the Great Books Foundation to bring together passionate readers to meet and talk about enduring issues and ideas. Three years later, these gentlemen joined Walter Paepcke to form the Aspen Institute. Today, the Great Books program remains integrally linked to the ideals of the Aspen Institute. This five-week program offers participants the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the most significant books in the Western intellectual tradition through a weekly moderated dialogue.

Led by moderators Paul Andersen and Jon Peacock, the 2022 series will take place on five consecutive Wednesdays from 6:00-8:30 pm MT on January 26, February 2, February 9, February 16, and February 23. All sessions will take place in person on the Institute’s Aspen Meadows campus.

Participants will be asked to show vaccination status and a negative COVID test result before each session. The Aspen Institute will provide tests for each session

Great Books is now at capacity. Please email Zoë Brown if you’d like to add your name to the waitlist.
