America’s Economy: From Crisis to Reform to Recovery
America’s Economy: From Crisis to Reform to Recovery, a conversation with Michael Barr, United States Treasury Department and Former Assistant Secretary for Financial Institutions. Moderated by Ken Adelman.
Entering office in the midst of the world’s most severe financial crisis since the Great Depression, Michael Barr and his colleagues at the United States Treasury faced a host of daunting challenges: major financial institution’s balance sheets were in tatters, credit markets remained near frozen, and the broader economy was continuing to hemorrhage jobs at alarming rate. With that backdrop, they set to work.
Over the course of the next two years, Michael Barr was on front lines of righting our Nation’s economy. As Assistant Secretary, Barr was a chief architect in the reform of our nation’s financial system, a trusted counsel on numerous issues to Secretary Geithner, and a driving force behind the creation of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Now an alumni of the Obama Administration, Michael will sit down to offer his insights on the tumultuous economic events of the past three years, his role in the reform our Nation’s financial sector, and his expert opinion on the future of financial markets and the broader US economy.
