Aspen Wye Fellows with Alan Wurtzel

The Aspen Wye Fellows are joined by Alan Wurtzel, former Chairman and CEO of Circuit City, to discuss his book “Good to Great to Gone: The 60 Year Rise and Fall of Circuit City.” Alan Wurtzel, son of Circuit City founder Sam Wurtzel, joined the company in 1966 as Vice President of Legal Affairs and took over as CEO in six short years. Through his leadership, Circuit City transformed from a small family business with a mere $13,000 investment to the best performing Fortune 500 Company for any fifteen-year period between 1950 and 2000. Circuit City successfully navigated the changing marketplace for consumer electronics from its founding in 1949 until 2009, when it suffered the ultimate demise. In the context of “”Good to Great to Gone: The 60 Year Rise and Fall of Circuit City,”” Mr. Wurtzel will discuss the challenges of building and sustaining a company in today’’s global economy.
