Book Ball – A virtual benefit for Aspen Words

A celebration of why we read, write and tell stories
Book Ball will feature international best-selling author and podcast host Cheryl Strayed (“Wild,” “Sugar Calling”) in conversation with Aspen Words Executive Director Adrienne Brodeur. The evening also will include brief remarks by literary luminaries such as Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Jericho Brown, Aspen Words Literary Prize recipients Tayari Jones and Christy Lefteri, and best-selling author Luis Alberto Urrea, among others.
Throughout the month of October, Aspen Words is running a fundraising campaign with the goal of raising $70,000 to help sustain our programs for readers and writers of all ages. The Aspen Words Advisory Board has committed to collectively match all donations up to $70,000 during this campaign. Learn about the impact of your support.
A gift of $100+ to Aspen Words in the month of October (Oct. 1 – 29) provides access to Book Ball, a virtual benefit and literary celebration. Anyone who donates within the first ten days of October (Oct. 1 – 10) will be eligible to win a curated book stack – collections include books by Aspen authors, an assortment of cookbooks and a selection of new releases chosen by top book editors in the publishing industry. By making a $2,500+ donation any time in October, you will receive a monthly book recommendation for an entire year, custom curated for you by the Aspen Words team!

What can I expect on October 29?
Our 45-minute program will include brief appearances from past Aspen Words authors and participants, as well as a Q&A featuring Cheryl Strayed and Executive Director Adrienne Brodeur. We’ll also draw the raffle for our Book Stack winners. We hope you’ll join us as we celebrate literature and storytelling and give thanks for your support.
What does my ticket/donation support?
Annually, our small team hosts more than 35 events serving over 8,700 participants. These include adult and youth writing workshops, an author speaker series, writers residencies, youth poetry slam events, a literary award celebrating fiction with social impact, a community read, and more! During COVID, we have transformed every program to the digital realm, with free, virtual panels and scholarship-supported workshops. Your donation provides vital funding to sustain this work.
