Culture and Conflict: Art and Understanding in the Middle East
In conflict areas around the globe, the best diplomatic efforts still often leave communities torn by patterns of distrust. Can the arts help to transcend prejudice and enable understanding and respect? Join legendary ballroom champion Pierre Dulaine, founder of Dancing Classrooms, and composer Merlijn Twaalfhoven, director of the Al Quds Underground Festival, in a discussion on their transformative work in the Middle East, and the power of music and dance in overcoming national, political and religious boundaries. This conversation, part of the Washington Roundtable Series 2013, will be led by Aspen Institute Arts Program Director Damian Woetzel.
The Washington Ideas Roundtable Series is made possible with the generous support of Michelle Smith and the Robert H. Smith Family Foundation.
