Each summer the Justice & Society Seminar, co-founded in 1979 by the late Supreme Court Justice Harry A. Blackmun, brings together a diverse group of profressionals from the business, law, and government to discuss how a just society should structure its legal, judicial, and political institutions.

Through an examination of fundamental principles—liberty, equality, dignity, and justice—participants emerge personally renewed, professionally re-focused, and with a better understanding of how their values and ideals guide their actions.

Our unique, humanities-based approach to leadership development uses classic and contemporary nonfiction, law cases, and literary texts as the basis for intensive, interactive roundtable dialogues. Under the guidance of Aspen-trained moderators, small groups of 18-23 participants explore the tensions among the values that inform their most important leadership decisions. Activities and time for reflection complement the dialogue process.

The 2022 Justice and Society Seminar will take place in Aspen, CO at the Aspen Meadows campus June 4-10. We’re excited to share the seminar will be co-moderated by Associate Justice of the California Supreme Court, Goodwin H. Liu.
