Chair of the Global Leaders Council for Reproductive Health Mary Robinson and Council members Gro Harlem Brundtland and Musimbi Kanyoro joined United Nations Foundation (UNF) President Tim Wirth, Director General of the International Planned Parenthood Foundation (IPPF) Tewodros Melesse, and moderator Peggy Clark in an official conference side event at the UN Rio+20 Conference on Sustainable Development. The event, held on June 18, 2012, was organized by the GLC secretariat with support from partners UNF and IPPF.

In front of a standing room only audience at the main Rio de Janeiro conference center, the panelists discussed the shift away from incorporating human development – particularly reproductive health – as an equal pillar in sustainable development, and what opportunities and challenges exist for building the political will necessary to achieve universal access.
