The Aspen Future of Nuclear Energy Forum
The Aspen Institute Energy and Environment Program is convening this new forum to bring together thought leaders to discuss the future of nuclear energy in the nation’s energy portfolio. Nuclear energy faces a series of challenges stemming from aging fleets, competition from inexpensive natural gas, environmental concerns, and flat electricity demand, among other factors, but it is also serves as an important energy source with zero carbon emissions. This forum, focused on domestic U.S. nuclear energy, will provide an impartial venue for innovators, energy providers, and policy makers to analyze in-depth the challenges facing the industry and develop new ideas to maximize its potential and effectiveness in the future. The Forum will build on previous discussions at our annual Energy Policy Forum as well as the current discourse.
The Forum will be co-chaired by Phil Sharp, president of Resources for the Future, and Steve Kuczynski, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Southern Nuclear Operating Company.
