A diverse group of 200 young climate leaders will be invited to Miami Beach, FL from March 9-11 for the Future Leaders Climate Summit, days before hundreds of climate innovators, changemakers and experts gather for the third annual Aspen Ideas: Climate event.
Washington, D.C. and Miami Beach, FL, August 10, 2023, – Applications are now open for the 2024 Future Leaders Climate Summit, an annual gathering of young climate leaders hosted by the Future Leaders Climate Initiative and the Energy & Environment Program at the Aspen Institute, in partnership with the City of Miami Beach, Florida.
Approximately 200 of the most diverse future leaders in the age range of 22-30 will be invited to convene in Miami Beach, FL from Saturday, March 9 to Monday, March 11 to discuss climate policy, innovation, communications, career development, and leadership. Applicants with an undergraduate degree or three years of experience related to climate change and sustainability issues are encouraged to apply.
The goal of the Summit is to build momentum for greater climate action in every corner of the earth, beginning with Future Leaders. The Summit has been designed to create and foster collaborative, innovative, and creative conversations among a wide variety of thinkers and leaders across the climate space. Collective success in the climate crisis depends on a robust exchange of ideas – an exchange that will be fueled by a rich diversity of perspectives, experiences, backgrounds, and opinions. To create this exchange, the Future Leaders Climate Summit is looking for diverse candidates, each who hold their own unique solutions to climate change, the greatest challenge of our time.
“The Future Leaders Climate Summit gave me hope and confidence in equal measure,” said ‘23 Future Leader Oscar Pusey. “Exposure to like minded and strong willed people from all over the world was exactly what built both of these. The project gave me access to a huge group of people whose skills and experiences have motivated and made possible my work on Gen Z in the climate space and their possibility to close the green skills gap.”
Throughout the Summit Future Leaders will develop ideas and solutions to the greatest climate and environmental challenges facing their communities, from mitigating climate change, to adapting to extreme weather impacts, to preparing for a rapidly changing world that likely will include more political unrest, forced migration, and security issues.
Future leaders will also have the option to attend Aspen Ideas: Climate 2024, where they can network, convene, and co-collaborate with some of the biggest voices in climate and have access to spaces that have historically excluded the voices of young people. Following the summit and Aspen Ideas: Climate, the Future Leaders Climate Initiative will empower the next generation of climate leaders through a year of support, amplification, and capacity-building related to climate policy, communications, innovation, and leadership.
For many Future Leaders, the Future Leaders Climate Summit will be the first climate-focused convening that they have attended, like ‘23 Future Leader Atharv Agrawal, who cited the Future Leaders Climate Summit and Aspen Ideas: Climate as “transformational experiences,”. Attendees will gather in spaces surrounded by talented and passionate people from around the world working in so many facets of the climate space. He went on to say, “meeting so many people working on the ground was a reassurance for the steps that I was taking in my own journey and all the opportunities as well as resources that are out there for me to seek out. More than anything, the Future Leaders have been—and are going to be—strong pillars of support in the community.”
Applications will close on Tuesday, September 5 at 3:00 AM ET. Selections will be announced by mid-October 2023.
