January 13, 2022, Miami Beach, FL – Today, the Aspen Institute and the City of Miami Beach announced that Aspen Ideas: Climate, a multi-day event focused on global and local solutions to the climate crisis, will now take place May 9-12, 2022, moving from March 3-7. All previously announced programming and plans for excursions and activities across the region will proceed as planned on the new dates.
“The prospect of this event has generated amazing interest from all over the world so we need to make sure it is hosted in the safest manner possible,” said Mayor Dan Gelber. “As a city that knows first-hand the challenges of climate change, we are excited to be part of this solutions conference.”
“Aspen Ideas: Climate is shaping up to be an essential, solutions-focused gathering in a region that’s earned a global reputation as a hub for climate innovation,” said Dan Porterfield, President and CEO of the Aspen Institute. “Safety remains our top priority and this new date allows us to plan with greater predictability, ensure maximum participation of speakers and attendees, and respond well on matters of health and safety. We look forward to welcoming speakers, guests, and members of the public to South Florida in May.”
Aspen Ideas: Climate brings together policymakers, scientific experts, business and technology leaders, innovators, designers, conservationists, artists, young leaders and the public. The event will be held in locations across Miami Beach, including the New World Center, the Miami Beach Convention Center, and The Bass Museum of Art. Organizers will also offer field trips and excursions to key locations in South Florida where scientists, artists, architects, and conservationists are actively modeling adaptation and mitigation.
The agenda, which is subject to change, includes morning mainstage sessions, afternoon breakout sessions, and evening sessions. In the evenings, programming will be “Wallcast” onto the side of the New World Center, with the public invited to watch Aspen Ideas: Climate for free from SoundScape Park. Receptions across the city, ancillary events and excursions will take place throughout.
