Aspen Institute to Host Peabody Conservatory Trio at Wye Woods

Min-Kuei Yang, Yoon Young Bae, and Yoon Nah Cho to Perform

Queenstown, MD, April 5, 2010  – The Aspen Institute will host a spring concert featuring musicians from the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University on Sunday, April 18, 2010 at 3:00 pm at the Institute’s Wye Woods Conference Center in Queenstown, MD. The musicians from Peabody will be Min-Kuei Yang, Yoon Young Bae, and Yoon Nah Cho.

Min-Kuei Yang was born in Changhua, Taiwan. She began studying piano at the age of six. Ms. Yang obtained her bachelor degree at National Taiwan Normal University and graduated with the highest honor in 2004. She has been performing in major concert halls in Taiwan, including Presidential Hall, National Recital Hall, Concert/ Recital Hall of NTNU in Taipei, and Chi-Shan Hall in Kaoshiung Cultural Center. In 2009, Ms. Yang was the only pianist awarded the prestigious governmental award of distinguished scholars/students. Ms. Yang holds a master degree from Eastman School of Music under the instruction of Ms. Nelita True. She is currently a doctoral student at the Peabody Conservatory of Music of the Johns Hopkins University, studying with Alexander Shtarkman. She was awarded the Clara Ascherfeld Award in recognition of her excellence in the position as full graduate assistant in accompanying at Peabody.

Yoon Young Bae received her doctoral degree under Victor Danchenko at Peabody where she received her master of music. She holds her bachelor of music from Seoul National University. She can be seen frequently on concert stages including Aspen, Maryland, Virginia, Chicago, Canada, Chile, Germany, Holland, Korea, and Washington, DC. Her concerto performances include those with Seoul Philharmonic, SNU orchestra and Aspen Youth Artist Orchestra. Dr. Bae taught violin performance and pedagogy in the master class at Vina del-Mar Conservatory and was a violin, music theory, and history instructor at Baltimore Music School. Dr. Bae currently teaches violin and viola at Peabody Preparatory of Johns Hopkins University and is a member of Annapolis Symphony Orchestra.

Yoon Nah Cho was born in Korea, where she began her musical studies at the age of four. She earned her master of music in cello performance under Robert Newkirk from the Catholic University of America and her bachelor of music in cello performance under Stephen Kates and Andres Diaz at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University. As her passion for chamber music continues, she has been working with various chamber groups and giving chamber concerts as well as solo recitals in the Baltimore and Washington, DC areas since 2007. Ms. Cho has received chamber music coaching from Michael Tree, Marian Hahn, Alan Stephansky, Paul York, Thomas Kraine, David Finckel, Wesley Baldwin, Michael Mermagen, Thomas Mastroianni, Rita Sloan, and Christopher Von Baeyer. Currently, she teaches as a faculty at Howard Community College, Columbia, MD.
