Contemporary Art Activations and Commissions by 15 Local Artists for Inaugural Aspen Ideas: Climate

Miami Beach, FL, April 21, 2022 — The City of Miami Beach is pleased to announce Arts Resilient 305 | Aspen Institute, a joint initiative by Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and the City of Miami Beach, presented in conjunction with Aspen Ideas: Climate for its inaugural conference in Miami Beach, May 9-12, 2022.
For the launch of the Arts Resilient 305 program, the City of Miami Beach and the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs invited local artists to commission new and repositioned site-specific temporary public art installations and performances highlighting issues related to climate change and sea level rise.
Participating artists include Dale Andree, Brigid Baker, Domingo Castillo, Franky Cruz, Cara Despain, Michele Oka Doner, Morel Doucet, Michelle Grant-Murray, Brookhart Jonquil, Gustavo Matamoros, Coral Morphologic, Lee Pivnik, Lauren Shapiro, and Hattie Mae Williams. Each artist will present either a new commission or have an existing work reimagined for its site within the city. The works will be installed beginning May 9 and will remain on view through May 12, 2022. The commissions will be installed and activated in key cultural locations in and around Miami Beach, including Miami Beach Convention Center, New World Center, SoundScape Park, Miami Beach Botanical Garden, and The Royal Palm South Beach. Aspen Ideas: Climate is a new annual event in Miami Beach, Florida, that will bring some of the most exciting innovators and leaders together with the public to engage with climate solutions that have the potential to reshape our world. All outdoor art activations and performances are free and open to the public. In addition, Aspen Ideas: Climate will wallcast the evening sessions onto the New World Center’s facade beginning at 8pm for free public viewing.
