India Leadership Initiative Fellows to Speak in a Panel Discussion: “India in an Era of Globalization”

Aspen, CO, September 5, 2007––Fellows of the India Leadership Initiative (ILI) will discuss the challenges and opportunities facing India in the context of an increasingly globalizing society.  The event will take place from 6:00 to 7:00 PM on Thursday, September 13, 2007 at the Paepcke Auditorium on the Institute’s Aspen Meadows campus in Aspen, CO. The discussion is free and open to the public.  Doors will open 45 minutes prior to the start of the discussion.

The Aspen Institute, together with the Aspen Institute India and the Global Markets Institute at Goldman Sachs, launched the ILI to develop a new generation of values-based action-oriented leaders.  ILI is the newest addition to a global network of leadership initiatives of this kind, managed with local partners in 14 countries in Africa, Central America, and the United States.

Modeled after the Henry Crown Fellowship, ILI focuses on business, government and civil society leaders between the ages of 30-45, and provides them with an opportunity to assess their own leadership values and those of their peers; encourages them to engage more vigorously in the foremost challenges of their country; and allows them to explore new ways to work in concert to improve Indian society and the world at-large.

The panelists will include:
 
Karti Chidambaram is a politician from Chennai, India and member of the All India Congress Committee.

Sudha Iyer is the chairperson and managing director of the Srijana Group, which has companies that do Web Business, Knowledge Services, Health Services, Storage Maximization and Family Services and she is also the chairperson and managing director of Haritas Health Services, a company that focuses on delivering health education to people with diabetes and other chronic ailments. 

Ravi Krishnan is managing director and the CFO of Goldman Sachs Services Pvt. Ltd.

Shivinder Mohan Singh is the managing director of Fortis Healthcare Limited and Escorts Heart Institute & Research Centre.

Peter Reiling, Executive Vice President for Leadership and Policy Programs at the Aspen Institute, will serve as the moderator.
