San Francisco, California, January 13, 2022
— The Aspen Institute’s Tech Policy Hub and Energy and Environment Program are thrilled to announce the launch of a joint climate cohort of the Hub Fellowship program. The Aspen Climate Cohort brings together the expertise and network of the Energy and Environment Program with the curriculum and training ability of the Tech Policy Hub to train climate engineers, scientists, technologists, and business experts to better apply their ideas to policy.

The Aspen Climate Cohort is tentatively scheduled to run for 10 weeks, full-time, from June 2 to August 12, 2022. Applicants of all backgrounds with technical expertise in climate change are eligible to apply, and admitted applicants will receive an $18,000 stipend to enable their participation. The program will be a mixture of in-person and online learning, pending COVID-19 restrictions.

“Building off years of success in the tech space, this program will help to inject science and technology expertise into the climate policy process to better inform the decisions for how we solve the climate crisis,” said Greg Gershuny, executive director of the Aspen Institute Energy & Environment Program.

“Our climate crisis needs strong policy leaders who can bring deep science and technology expertise to bear on this intractable problem,” said Betsy Cooper, director of the Aspen Tech Policy Hub. “We are delighted to work with our colleagues in the Energy and Environment Program to bring this unique training program to fruition.”

Alumni of previous Tech Policy Hub cohorts have gone on to work in senior positions across the White House, the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the Department of Homeland Security, and the General Services Administration.

Those with practical experience in areas such as environmental science, energy engineering, and green business operations are often not given the opportunity to access the policymaking process. The joint cohort aims to enable climate experts to better translate their ideas into actionable solutions.

For more information on how to apply, see here. Applications close February 28, 2022.

The Aspen Tech Policy Hub is a West Coast policy incubator, training a new generation of tech policy entrepreneurs. The Hub takes tech experts, teaches them the policy process through fellowship and training programs, and encourages them to develop outside-the-box solutions to society’s problems. It models itself after tech incubators like Y Combinator, but trains new policy thinkers and focuses on the impact of their ideas. For more information, please visit https://www.aspentechpolicyhub.org. The Aspen Tech Policy Hub is an initiative of Aspen Digital.

The Aspen Institute Energy and Environment Program explores significant challenges with diverse thinkers and doers to make a more prosperous, equitable, and sustainable society for all. We address critical energy, environmental, and climate change issues through non-partisan, non-ideological convening, with the specific intent of bringing together diverse stakeholders to improve the process and progress of policy-level dialogue. This enables EEP to sit at a critical intersection in the conversation and bring together diverse groups of expert stakeholders.
