Renowned Television Directors, Producers, and Actors to Speak At The Aspen Institute
Aspen, CO, August 17, 2007 – Suspense, laughter, panic, race, gender, sex, and violence will be discussed as the Aspen Institute convenes award-winning directors, producers, and actors of the top television shows — “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” “The Cosby Show,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” and “24” — on Saturday, August 25 and Sunday, August 26.
These shows, and their participants in the seminar, have together won 24 Emmy Awards, 10 Golden Globe Awards, and a host of other honors (Image Awards, Directors Guild of America Award, etc.).
As befitting the topic, “Television’s Impact on American Life,” the weekend events will be star-studded — Valerie Harper of “Mary Tyler Moore” and “Rhoda;” Phylicia Rashad who played the lawyer, mother, and wife on “The Cosby Show;” Jay Sandrich, director of both shows; Betsy Beers, executive producer of “Grey’s Anatomy,” and that show’s music supervisor, Alexandra Patsavas; and Jon Cassar, director of “24.”
There will be a panel, open to the Aspen public on August 25th from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm in Paepcke Auditorium, with all the television personalities ($10 charge per person). The two-day seminar, from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm on both Saturday and Sunday, will feature the television experts analyzing their shows in some depth, showing key video clips throughout both mornings.
This weekend program is sponsored by Kathy & Bill Mayer. It is the fourth in the Aspen Institute’s new Arts & Ideas series, which considers art as a pathway to broaden and deepen our understanding of contemporary issues. This approach reflects Aspen Institute founder Walter Paepcke’s vision of “the Aspen Idea [as] the cross-fertilization of minds.”
