“A great opportunity to do a deep dive on the systemic inequities facing this city, dream up solutions and make lifelong friends.” –Academy Fellow
After partnering with local organizations in 11 cities to deliver 14 Workforce Leadership Academies, we are excited to extend a new opportunity: for the first time, the Aspen Institute’s Economic Opportunities Program (EOP) is issuing a Request for Applications for partners for an additional six Academies.
“The relationships made with the other Fellows is invaluable both on a personal and professional level.”
Academies bring together leaders from across local workforce ecosystems into a 10-month Fellowship to deepen networks, strengthen systems leadership skills, apply a race, equity, and systems change framework to leaders’ work, and deepen understanding of effective strategies and programs. Academies provide a forum for local leaders to work collaboratively to identify local and regional systems-based challenges and create shared solutions.
“At first, I thought of the Academy as an academic exercise with a small potential for actual real-world impact; boy was I wrong!”
Selected partners will receive a challenge grant of $50,000 toward local academy costs and access to curriculum and administrative resources developed through prior academies. EOP will establish a facilitator forum among the selected partners: partners will receive biweekly coaching, meet in monthly virtual half-day sessions, and attend an in-person intensive 3-day retreat before their local academy launch.
“It’s had a great effect on my work and how I bring equity to the table in each conversation, leading with data.”
The Request for Applications can be found here and the Survey for the Letter of Intent to Apply, due June 24th here.
An information session was held on June 8th. During this session, participants learned about the academy experience from alumni and prior partners and discussed a detailed overview of the application process, including both the initial letter of intent to apply and the full application. A recording of this discussion is copied below.
“Through the course of a year, it will transform how you view and leverage partnerships, advocate on behalf of disenfranchised populations, listen to dissenting views with earnest validation — along with transforming your community outcomes through an action-oriented systems thinking approach.”
