In November, the Youth Advisory Board of the Center for Native American Youth formed a Generation Indigenous Subcommittee. That group devised a set of strategic policy recommendations for the Biden-Harris Administration, including reforms to the Department of Justice’s approach to Indian Country. On January 26, President Biden signed a memorandum that reflects many of CNAY’s recommendations.
It reads: “It is a priority of my Administration to make respect for Tribal sovereignty and self-governance, commitment to fulfilling Federal trust and treaty responsibilities to Tribal Nations, and regular, meaningful, and robust consultation with Tribal Nations cornerstones of Federal Indian policy.”
