Aspen Institute president and CEO Walter Isaacson shared the following message with staff of the organization.
The events in Charlottesville once again should remind us at the Aspen Institute of the importance of the work we do and the values we hold. There should be no place in our society for the kind of hatred, bigotry, and vileness that was on display in Charlottesville last weekend. As difficult as it might seem to feel optimistic about the future, know that Americans have come through darker times and emerged stronger for it. Let us take this opportunity to renew our commitment to values-based leadership, to civil, respectful dialogue, and to one another. Our united efforts on behalf of the Aspen Institute matter now more than ever, and I am confident that our values will prevail.
