UpSkill America is an employer-led movement to expand opportunity for America’s workers and allow our economy and communities to thrive. As part of our mission to advance the upskilling movement, we are pleased to share the following news.
Today, Google and Social Finance announced a new $100 million fund to support learners in underserved communities. Through inaugural training providers Merit America and Year Up, learners will upskill and earn Google Career Certificates—industry-recognized credentials that equip people with the skills needed to enter fields such as data analytics, IT support, project management, and user experience design. Partners will provide services like career coaching, living stipends and job placement support. And participating organizations will connect students to an employer consortium of more than 150 companies who are looking to hire. Students take part at no upfront cost and will only pay it back once they find a job earning at least $40,000 a year. Social Finance will then redistribute those repayments to future learners, making this model more sustainable.
