UpSkill America is an employer-led movement to expand opportunity for America’s workers and allow our economy and communities to thrive. As part of our mission to advance the upskilling movement, we are pleased to share the following news from one of our partners.
Today, Amazon announced the creation of its new Mechatronics and Robotics Apprenticeship (MRA) Program, which trains employees “on the skills and technical knowledge needed to fulfill one of these technical maintenance roles.” All employees are eligible to apply for the first phase of the program, which includes a 12-week course and a year of on-the-job learning. After that, “top-performing employees who successfully complete the first phase of the program may be selected for the second phase, which provides additional training with one of our higher education partners, followed by approximately two years of on-the-job learning, after which participants will be eligible for even more skilled and higher-paying roles in technical maintenance.” Higher education partners include Vincennes University, Wake Technical Community College, Lehigh Carbon Community College, and Dallas College. The MRA program is part of Amazon’s Upskilling 2025 initiative, a $700 million commitment to upskill 100,000 employees by 2025. Click here to read more.
We’re pleased to see forward-looking companies like Amazon continue to advance the upskilling movement even during this challenging time. As we noted before the start of the pandemic, downturns are a crucial time to invest in upskilling. We hope employers continue to take this message to heart.
