Bill Smith is the founder and CEO of Landing, the company behind the industry-first flexible leasing membership for long-term living. With a nationwide network of fully finished apartments with no strict leases or security deposits, members have the freedom to move to any Landing in any city with little notice, providing the modern renter with a new way to live. Before Landing, Bill founded and served as CEO of Shipt, which now operates as an independent subsidiary of Target and serves multiple retailers. Prior to Shipt, he was the founder and CEO of Insight Card Services, offering reloadable prepaid Visa cards to consumers throughout the US. Insight Card Services was acquired by Green Dot Corporation (GDOT:NYSE) in 2014.
Smith is tirelessly committed to the Birmingham community’s growth and welfare and actively contributes to the City Center’s revitalization. In August 2020, he was asked to serve on the Advisory Council of the Alabama Innovation Commission by Governor Kay Ivey and was appointed to the Birmingham Airport Authority board by Mayor Randall Woodfin in July 2018. Bill is a member of the board of Coca-Cola Bottling Company United, Inc., and is a founding investor and member of the board of CommerceOne Bank. Bill is a member of the 2018 Class of Henry Crown Fellows within the Aspen Global Leadership Network at the Aspen Institute, and in 2017, he was named Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year, Southeast Region.
Smith resides in Birmingham with his wife, Pam, and three young children.
