Elizabeth Economy is a Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution, Stanford University. From 2021 to 2023, she served as Senior Advisor (for China) to the Secretary of Commerce. She previously was the C.V. Starr Senior Fellow and Director, Asia Studies at the Council on Foreign Relations for over a decade. An award-winning author and internationally renowned expert on Chinese domestic and foreign policy and U.S.-China Relations, Dr. Economy’s most recent book is The World According to China (Polity, 2022) She is a frequent television and radio commentator and has published opinion pieces in news media, including The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, The New York Times, and the Financial Times, as well as articles in journals, such as Foreign Affairs, Foreign Policy, and the Harvard Business Review. She serves on the boards of Swarthmore College and the National Endowment for Democracy. She received her B.A. with honors from Swarthmore College, her A.M. from Stanford University, and her Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in political science.
