Juana Hernandez (Los Angeles, California) is Higher Education Manager LA Compact, Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Foundation. Juana is a first-generation college graduate and higher education professional dedicated to advancing postsecondary access and equity. Experienced in service design and delivery, strategy development, and policy analysis with a record of leadership in higher education, nonprofit, and government agency settings. Strong grasp of the theoretical frameworks and evidence-based practices in undergraduate retention, particularly as they relate to students of low-income and first-generation college backgrounds. She is interested in aligning policies, practices, and programs across the educational pipeline in order create seamless transitions and improve student success. For her commitment to education policy and her public sector leadership, Juana has been nationally recognized by the Harry S. Truman Foundation, the Public Policy and International Affairs (PPIA) Program, and the American Education Research Association. She was recently recognized by the Harvard Kennedy School as the recipient of the 2015 Robert F. Kennedy Award for Excellence in Public Service and of the inaugural Diversity and Inclusion Leadership Award. A proud Head Start alumna and former public school student, Juana graduated magna cum laude from UCLA with a B.A. in English and minors in Education Studies, Political Science, and Chicano/a Studies. She completed her Master of Public Policy at the Harvard Kennedy School in May 2015. Participated in Aspen Institute Latinos and Society Program America’s Future Summit.
