Philip Javellana is the managing director of marketing, communications, and strategic initiatives for the Aspen Institute, leading enterprise communications and brand marketing for the organization. Before taking this role, he led the Institute’s Leadership Division communications team, overseeing the strategic and editorial direction of the Division’s marketing initiatives. Prior to joining the Aspen Institute, Philip was an engagement and insights supervisor at Meredith Xcelerated Marketing (MXM) where he led social media teams for a number of high-profile international entertainment and consumer brands including AMC Networks, ABC Family/Freeform, Lavazza Coffee, and more. Before MXM, Philip served as the senior brand and communications manager at City Year Los Angeles. At City Year, he led public relations, digital media, video production, and speaker training initiatives to communicate the impact of the hundreds of AmeriCorps members serving in Los Angeles’ highest-need schools. He has also held positions at NBC, MTV Networks, and the National Press Foundation. Philip holds an MSc in global media from the London School of Economics and an MA in global communications from the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism at the University of Southern California. He earned his BA at American University where he graduated magna cum laude. Philip was born in the Philippines, raised in New Jersey and Maryland, and now lives in Washington, DC with his husband. He is a wine enthusiast and an avid dodgeball player.
